About Us

What do you do when your children are all grown up and have left the family home?

We decided it was time for us to leave too.

In 2014, with our 4 children off on their own adventures, we moved back to British Columbia, having spent 27 engaging years in Banff.  Coming back to our west coast roots, we chose to land on Cortes Island, a rural community with access to British Columbia’s beautiful coastal wilderness. When we bought this rustic 2 story timber frame home on 2.65 acres, a Bed & Breakfast was inevitable as it gives us time to fulfill our passions of trail blazing, growing food and cooking.

Walking into Brilliant by the Bay B&B is a homecoming. Inviting and welcoming, Brilliant by the Bay appeals to all types of guests: from solitary retreaters to family flocks, from couples seeking a romantic getaway to the adventurous. Guests can relax into the open and welcoming atmosphere that has long been a part of our home.

Food is at the heart of Brilliant by the Bay, whether its garden abundance or  breakfasts. Morning meals include in-season vegetables, berries, fruit, and/or preserves that are grown and harvested on the 2.65 acres.  The garden is expanding year after year so we are able to produce more of the food that we share with our guests. From soil to platter, branch to fork, these meals are meant to delight and satiate you. Vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free food requests are accommodated. Anything that will make your stay a little more special is on the menu!

Stars pierce the black night sky. Owls and Pacific Chorus frogs are often heard after dusk, and the howls of Marina Island wolves travel across the water. Other than nature’s calls and wind on a lively day, a deep hush surrounds Brilliant by the Bay B&B while interesting conversation and warm laughter fill its spaces.
